1995 4.2L econoline engine probs

I purchased this van for work about 2 months ago. It has 125000 miles and is clean as a whistle.I have replaced the tps, and fuel filter. Both of those were a pita. My check engine light has not come on.
My problem is the van will occasionally start right up but then it might cut off while coming to a stop or not restart after i go into a store. Is there a common fix or any help would be great.

There was not a 4.2L engine in a 1995 E-series van.

Doesn't matter codes can be stored without the CE light ever being on so pull the codes to see what if anything is flagged. You may get the "all clear" code(111) but even with that you have eliminated all the sensors as potential problems and can focus on other potential causes.

problem is getting worse

I am pretty sure it is an intermittent spark problem. It seems like when it gets warm it cuts off then wont start till it cools. The engine is actually the 5.0. I tried a new tfi which is bolted on the fender, new coil, new relays and switched a couple of relays around. It is not throwing any codes.I am able to replace whatever part is wrong I am just not a good enough mechanic to figure this problem out and I really need someones help to get this van on the road so I can put it to work. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction with some sort of step by step instructions that would be much appreciated.

That BLACK TFI (ICM) you replaced very seldom goes bad. I hope you put in a BLACK one and not a GRAY one.

Well if your sure it is spark with no codes then it is more than likely the Computer (PCM).
A bad PIP sensor and that is the other item that could cause it should have put up a code in CM.

So the codes you got was:
KOEO 111
CM 111
&
KOER 111.
Right?

Well it threw a code that someone had put it in park at high speeds and a tps code which i already replaced. the pip i guess would be the next part?

Codes

Yes we got those codes. I have been researching and reading up on everyone that has had this same prob and first of all..."subford" is the real deal. second of all I have found out that the pip is the cps and that is exactly the symptoms i am getting. I was wondering why I couldn't find one on this vehicle. Finally it appears that the new tfi was probably not a bad investment because 3 or 4 separate resources stated they should be replaced at the same time. now then, how do i replace the pip without having to purchase a timing light?

The easy (but more costly) way is to get an entire distributor (has one already installed).

The cheaper but harder way involves distributor dis-assembly, I think you need a gear puller to get the center armature thing off. Google it, there may even be videos of it.

That is what I am checking out now. Looks like subford recommends replacing the dist too because a new one wont hurt and its so much easier

Can I just clean the pip up to get more life out of it like you can a cps?
