Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch Fault
Possible causes
  • a damaged or inoperative PAD switch.
  • a damaged or inoperative RCM module.
  • a short to battery, short to ground or open on circuit 1112 (W/LB).
  • an incorrectly configured RCM.

It's a ding, right? It dings when the air bag indicator can't/won't light on your dash because the idiot light is burned out... on these trucks, an airbag issue is usually that danged PAS. It's got a small bulb in there for the "off" indicator that blows out all the time and what sucks is the dealer want's $100 for it! If you take it apart, you'll ask yourself what the heck is in that thing that's worth $100! You can replace the bulb really easy, you just have to have a solder iron, but I did it with an LED instead because I didn't wanna have to deal with it again. I posted a writeup here.

It'll still ding if your idiot light is burned out... had an idiot light on for the longest time. When that burned out, it resorted to dinging instead.

Airbag light in the gauge cluster... passenger airbag and/or switch or not. If the light in the gauge cluster is burned out, the truck will ding instead.

Must be something else, then... on my truck, I had a specific code for the PAS. Have you hooked up a scanner? Airbag problems don't throw the SES light, but they do have codes that you can read that will be more specific.
