my brother threw a 390 together and it had 360 pistons to yield 10+ :1 CR and the biggest cam he could run on factory valve train. Stock 4bbl intake, headers till they were junk and got swapped for manifolds, and that thing was absolutely a torque monster, roll smoke off of the tires from an idle, even at 6000 ft where we are in CO. We never degreed the cam and did no work on the heads, just bolted it together and had it balanced. It wasn't a race car and really flattened out around 5000 or so but if you want to cook those 35s it would do it and not even have to spin to do it. It had a eddy 600 then an eddy 750 then a holley TA670 and it ran best with the holley but it just ran good all the time.

Here's some info: Engine Porting Kit

Do it.
That's what I was thinking about the price. If you're only looking for 50 more hp, you should not be looking at anywhere near 1k just for port/polish.

ok well im pretty sure im going to do some home porting. using the gasket trick on exhuast side and little unsure if im going to do intake side. and to reseat my valves im going to try thr abrasive compound and do it by spinning a valve in there till i get a good ring around it. any input would b helpful as this is a big thing for me since ive never tried it before and my motor genius brother is saying im stupid for even trying it by myself. o and do u guys like percys dead soft gaskets. bought some for my hooker headers.

lapping valves is pretty straight forward if you have the right set up. as for gaskets, i use copper.

in previous build, before the current one. i ran a bigger cam. it lasted for a while. but the stock rocker arm springs eventually failed-too much lift on stock rockers caused bind. i now have mercury adjustables and a smaller mid-range cam in it, doesn't lope as much, but i like it.

im curious about some of those cheap aluminum adjustable rocker arms i see on ebay for fe motors.
