From what I understand the F250 & F350 are the same truck with the exception of the blocks in the F350. I have an F350 which I bought because I like knowing I can put lots and lots of weight in the bed (if you're gonna buy a truck you may as well go all the way). So does the F250 really have all the same suspension, springs etc.? Just a different sticker on the door? Why does Ford do this? Makes no sense to me.

 

Rear springs and rear blocks are different, other than that, they are the same.

The 350 SRW will ride quite a bit stiffer empty, than a comparable 250.

 

Because in many states 10,001 lb vehicles and above are commercial vehicles only. So the sticker has to be different.

The rear axle on the F350 is a little larger and has 37 splines at the hub end. The F250 has 35.

 

All of the rear end parts on an F-250 and an F-350 SRW are the same, including the main spring pack, with two exceptions. The F-350 has taller blocks, and the F-350 comes standard with the overload spring set above the main spring pack. The axles are identical.

The F-350 DRW uses a different axle, etc.

I was told that getting the Camper Package basically made my 250 a 350 with the extra spring for the camper certification. Don't know if they were blowing smoke or not.

 

The camper package got you the extra spring (and front and rear sway bars), but not the taller blocks. I don't believe it changed the GAWR or GVWR, but I won't swear to that.

My truck is an F-250 with the extra spring and sway bars and it's GVWR is 8800.

 

When you speak of blocks are you talking about the blocks for a lift kit? On my 99 with the camper package it came with a factory 2 or 4" lift.
I also ordered the 10000/9900 GVWR package on the new vehicle. It was a $0 option.

 

The stock blocks between the spring pack and the axle. I didn't know you could order different ones. That's interesting.

 

you can't order different ones... they are specific to the pickup you buy.

F250 4x2 gets no block
F250 4x4 and F350 4x2 get 2" blocks
F350 4x4 gets 4" block

SRW of course. DRW is different.

Ive seen many early 99 F250 4x4s with 4 inch blocks, all diesels with the engine badge on the fender.....

I'm fairly confident that early 99s all came with the taller blocks, since I remember seeing a TSB about shorter blocks for those pulling 5th wheels.

 

Iv got a early 99 250 with 4.0 blocks in the rear and 3 leaf springs per side up front. I believe it is f350 suspension. When my truck was made, a true f350 had a Dana 60 front axel up front. My truck has the dana 50 up front with a 10.5 rearend out back. Oh also there are 6 springs per side over the rear axel not counting the over loads underneith them. I believe this is f350 suspension on a f250. Custom ordered by the previous owner. So there are more differences between a f250 and f350.

 

1999 was an odd duck... the mirrors also don't telescope.
