I used Motorcraft SP417 platinum/iridium plugs @ $2.69 each. OEM manufacturer, and noted as 'exact fit' at Advance Auto Parts. I didn't think 'double platinum' plugs were worth it as I will not leave them in for 100k anyways.
They were installed in a 2007 mariner with the 3.0 at about 95k miles. The old plugs had rounded electrodes and the gap was larger than the recommended maximum. The 100k plug life advertised would not be my recommendation as the price of catalytic converters, COPs and computers significantly outweighs the $18 for some spark plugs.

p.s. here's some step-by-step copied from somewhere {thanks to whomever..}
Here's how:
Remove the Vacuum hose from the intake tube
Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector
Remove the Intake tube from the throttle body and
remove the air filter box lid
Disconnect the Cruise control and throttle cables
(The bracket may need to be unbolted)
Disconnect the EGR Vacuum Solenoid Electrical Connector and Vacuum Hoses
Disconnect the TPS Sensor Electrical Connector
Disconnect the Idle air Control Electrical Connector
Disconnect the vacuum line from the purge solenoid
Unbolt the EGR Valve (2 bolts) you may need a new EGR gasket
(I reused mine)
unclip the two electrical connectors from their mounting bracket on the left side of the manifold
Remove the 3 hoses on the back of the manifold
loosen the 8 bolts holding the upper Manifold and remove
do your spark plug thing. Be SURE to use a torque wrench on the plugs, and be sure to follow the tightening sequence and steps for the intake manifold.

SP523 is the WRONG plug for an '08 V6. It's for the 04-05 V6.
The correct service plug is the SP491. $4.12 each plus shipping from forum sponsor RockAuto. There's usually a 5% discount code floating around to save a few more pennies.
You can look up the correct parts at Official Ford Parts Site | Buy Motorcraft & OEM Ford Parts Online | FordParts.com.

from advance auto parts for:2008 escape xlt 3.0 2wd
Autolite double plat app104 $4.49 ea
single plat ap104 $2.99
xp iridium xp104 $6.99
motorcraft sp523 ... not available but listed as fitting ... no mention of the 491
all sorts of NGK(up to $14.99 each!!! .. Laser!!! whooeee) Delco and Bosch also.
Seems there is a dizzying array of plugs for this engine, even changing with model year, and the factory approved differing depending on who you call ... and when. You can't even just match the factory installed plugs in one case as they caused damage...TSB released to advise.
Wonder what you'd get installed if you went to FoMoCo dealer for the 100k service.
ProjectSHO, given the changing recommendations, apparently, I would not categorically state one plug is the WRONG plug for this application. Seems the manufacturer had waffled back and forth, and they's spozta know what they's doin', donchanknow?
