WW/rebuilt Turbo Noise - Whats Normal
Had turbo rebuilt last month with a WW. Truck runs well but I noticed a noise at 1500 rpm which continues through 2000 rpm. louder with more throttle. Goes away, or I cant hear it, past 2000k with heavy boost.
I read most of the previous posts regarding the increase in noise with the WW. This sounds different than turbo whistle.....more like a high freq. humming/howling.
Just curious if thats the WW noise...want to ensure no more turbo issues. Pulled my buddies 26' center console boat (7000lbs) sunday back from Texas coast. Trucks performance was excellent with 13.25 mpg average on highway.
Added an AIS when turbo and removed EBP stuff in pedestal and outlet was reinstalled as well. Stock exhaust for now.

good luck man. I personally went thru the trials/tribute, to a foiled cac pipe, blocking off the zoodad mod, exchanged turbos with a non-w.w one..(now i have spare ), blocking holes in inner fender..etc, you name it, and for me, no change.
You by chance have a 6sp? Mine, just recently started making a "sand in a metal can" noise. Goes away with the clutch depressed. Starting to lean, for me, a trans issue...

Yup, but its a whole new ballgame, with these beast. Myself, purchased it because i wanted the satisfaction of being able to tow ANYTHING, and with that purchase, to be the "last' truck i buy. So, when noises, quirks..etc arises, well, it puckers the keaster and truck needs attention..lol

timmyboy76: UPDATE
I finally drove an early 99 (actually an ambulance we have here a work) and it has the same turbo noise. That confirms for me its normal and just associated with the wheel.
Also had a lingering oil leak that i attrubuted to my r&r on the turbo. This weekend I replaced my IPR and HPOP lines...between the two the leak has stopped.

Sponge, from seeing your "new" thread, thought your still chasing the noise, and was hoping the F-550 turbo wasthe fix. Anyway, you found that ur noise is normal. I too went ahead and pulled the ZF6, installed new clutch asy, input shaft repair sleeve kit, turned flywheel...etc, the works when replacing t clutch, and NOPE, noise still there. I think mines internal of the trans.
