How much would you pay for diesel true dual exhaust?

If they made a turbocharger with dual sided exhaust vanes, so you could actually run real dual exhaust, what would you be willing to pay for it?

Wow I have to say I thought a lot of you would be interested in this.

I know I've always wished both exhaust banks didn't have to be combined together and lose the nice V8 sound.

If I had twin turbos I would consider it, but until then I'm gonna stick with a single pipe. Only one side of my truck gets sooted up right now.

I meant kind of in an imaginary world; if you could buy a turbocharger that had dual side exhaust vanes, so you could run 2 pipes right from the turbo, and have true dual exhaust.

I was just curious about how many of you feel a touch sad that the closest thing we have is a single into a y-pipe to dual exhaust.

It's not the single exhaust that kills the V8 sound. My buddy has a single 7.3 Turbo on his 460, and it just sounds like a huge V8 with a turbo on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApCTbF4If-o

Diesels do not typically have the same sound as a gasser because of their relatively low rev range, the quite different camshaft profiles, different style exhaust ports, and the different combustion characteristics.

Please tell me everything you can about that truck, i've been wanting to turbocharge a gas truck for a long time, a 460 would rock !!!!

It's a 96 F-250 HD CC SB 4x4 E4OD with a stock 460.

It has a remote mount 7.3 Van turbo just aft of the cab under the bed. Ditched all emissions components and mufflers, has a 3" pipe straight from the header collectors to the turbo. We converted it to sequential mass-air EFI with a 90mm Lightning MAF. We're running about 7 PSI boost with 80 lb-hr injectors. Only thing the transmission has in it is a TransGo Shift-Kit

Can you explain in more detail the EFI system you used? I was looking at the "megasquirt" system, but thought it was a lot of work unless you really wanted to go crazy.

Think it might hold more boost with water injection?

How does it spool?

It's just a Ford EEC-IV out of a '95 F-150 California 5.0 E4OD. We used a device called a Moates QuarterHorse and software called BinaryEditor to tune it.

Detonation really isn't the issue, just more or less what the stock pistons and rods will take power-wise. He plans to tear the engine out eventually and do a mild build with forged rods and pistons.

From a dig it takes a bit to get the turbo going, as the turbo nearly comes to a stop being so far from the engine while idling. If you're already cruising though, the turbo lights off quite quick.

I'm thinking, if you're gonna want to run true dual on a V8 diesel, run a turbo for each bank. Problem solved!

Haha that would be awesome, I just don't think that could ever happen with VGT, you'd need need 2 complete VGT systems, even the system I imagined would need 2 sets of vanes, but share the same controller and stuff.

Actually, I would bet that you could divert the vgt control signal to two turbos instead of one and keep just one set of electronics. VGT turbos are out there in many shapes and sizes. Grab two that are half the size of a stock one, put one on each bank, and run the control signal in parallel. IMO plumbing and oiling would be the biggest challenges.
