If there's no fan, and the front is full of holes it is a 3G.

On the front will be three pairs of ribs.
The 95A version has 4 (four) holes between each pair of ribs.
The 130A version has only 2 (two) holes between the ribs.

Getting ready to start my conversion.

Well it looks like I will be doing the 2G to 3G conversion soon. My alternator is pushing out over 16v at idle. I must be one of the lucky ones as I have a 92 Flareside 5.0L auto and as far as I know have never had any issues with the alternator till now. It may have been changed once before but not sure. Will keep you updated on the progress as parts come in.

Hi,
I'm looking at doing this with my 1989 F-150 XLT Lareit with a 6I-300!

Does anyone have any exact info on the best 3G alternator to use in this application???

I can not bring up the fuel tech library?

The "best" bet would be to get one for/from a '95/6 F150 w/ 300. Ford finally switched this application over to the 3G alternator for the final two years it was produced.

The 3.8 Taurus/Windstar can be a donor, but the case configuration isn't ideal, so you need to either re-clock it or just deal with the not-quite-right cable routing.

Hi,
Thanks I didn't know that about the 95/96 trucks using a G3 alt.!

My bracket has a 12:00 hole so I SHOULD be good with a 8.25 hole spacing!

Now though I will look at getting the donor from a ford truck as I should be able to grab the harness at the same time!!! Thanks!!!

The trucks used the 95A 3G, if you want the 130A 3G get one from a 3.8l V6 Taurus/Sable.
You want the heavier charge cable and fuse than the trucks had if you get the 130.

He and his web presence have disappeared.
This is why a lot of the photo links are dead.
I have a cheap DB Electrical alternator and it's been fine.

You can get a cable and MegaFuse holder for $25 at most LAP.
The regulator pigtail is under $15 in Ebay.
