Will glad to hear you got the truck back, that didn't take 'em long to fix it. I know exactly what you mean about stuck in a non-preferred ride. I spent two weeks with the Explorer....I now remember why I won't buy another one. Underpowered, small (for my taste) and this one after 170k miles is starting to show it's age....add to that the current ones are more like a car than the truck they started out as.

Paintball huh? I used to be pretty big into playing pb. Sold all my stuff around a year ago but managed to hang on to a brand new Scepter 4000 grenade launcher thats been in my closet ever since. Where abouts are you? I normally played down in Marianna with an old college roommate/Fraternity brother and his group.

Im up here just south of Clarksville (exit 55-58 on I40) & play at Crossroads Paintball just to the west of Clarksville on Hwy 64. Right now the only guns I have that Im keeping is my Sterling & building a classic RT mag with E-mag lowers.

Always wanted a Mag just never got around to getting one. The guys I play with are so far away (im in Jonesboro) I never really got to play much so I sold my stuff and bought real guns with the cash. My truck has competition for my money and that would be guns. We never had a place to play other than fields we set up ourselves.
On a different note: Just called the interior shop and the guy quoted me $150-200 to put down the vinyl I got from JBG. That seem steep to you guys or is that about right?

I went through a couple gun-whoring stages in paintball. I would say its somewhere around or over 100 guns ive owned since I started in 1999. Looking at it from the money side, I should eat a bullet for wasting the money but there was alot of old highend guns I bought just to try cause I wanted them when I couldnt afford them. Im settling on 2 that will cover every type of play & puting my money into real steel, my trucks & stuff around the house & yard.

Anyone ever try the Gotts modification on their 4.6l or 5.4l F150? I ran across it online somewhere and decided to give it a try. Basically it is a cold air intake that costs about 15 bucks and can be reversed at any time. There is a part between the air filter and the fender that sucks air in through the fender. It necks down to less than 2" while the rest of the system is 3". All the Gotts mod does is replace this piece with a 3" pipe. It makes a pretty good difference on acceleration and throttle response. Search for it online if you are interested. I only took me about 15 minutes to complete the mod.

Morning gents, it may have cooled off more than some would have liked it Friday. But it's been just about perfect for working outdoors the last couple of days. The term beautiful just doesn't seem to do the days justice. Is there any other effects that it should have on the truck?

It is reported to add a few mpg's to the truck too but I haven't had it on there long enough to know yet. It is basically just a cold air intake and should have the same general properties.

Slow around here.....
Not sure if its from welding chicken poop (repairing a live haul trailer) for 2 days or something finally clicked in my head. Ive decided (for the next few days at least :P ) instead of redoing the 77 F250 4x4 I have or finding a newer 4x4 diesel (for everything but the body), just slowly build the '85 1ton into the truck I want.
Its got a diesel that Im happy with, cast iron 4spd, dually, dump bed & loud exhaust. Without rechecking, a supercab long bed (74-79) is a 155" wb. My 1ton is 161". So I could get the cab I want & still keep an 8' + dump bed. Maybe find a set of superduty springs & a front axle to make it 4 wheel drive one day.
Oh ya, I scored some old PTO shift cables & a throttle cable the other day. Not I can get rid of the jerry rigged shifters for the PTO & hydraulic pump plus set up a cruise control.

And another week is over, I like this.Trying to survive. I've been running locomotives too long I guess. I've been waiting for my credentials to catch up with me with my new employer. Which means I can run/operate a locomotive until it all gets here. Thus I've been working as a conductor while I wait...and it shows I'm out of shape. But on the flip side, I don't work weekends and I'm home every night. I'm sure I'll shape up about the time my credentials show up and I go back to running locomotives.
