361 edsel / 361 interceptor

Hi All,

I have a 1970 f100 with a 360 C6. I want to stay with my original engine and swap in a set of pistons from a 1959 361 FE. Can someone tell me the compression height on a 1959 361 Edsel piston? Will this work? These engines were rated at 303 hp. I'm very interested in turning my 360 into one of these as it would cure the low compression problem associated with a 1970 360 and also be a really cool nod to the old school.

PS I am well aware that I can turn my 360 into a 390. I love 390s but that's not what I want to do on this project.

Thanks,

Neil

I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I am curious as to "why"? Do you just happen to have a new set of 8 Ford 361 Edsel pistons laying around that you want to use? If not then just order pistons with the compression you want.

Thank you for your reply. I have found an old set of these pistons that I can buy. I also found a complete engine from one of these cars. As far as I know you can't order a proper set of ford 360 pistons that make good compression with the head combo on the trucks. The 360 piston design doesn't quite come to the top of the cylinder, so you get low compression and poor fuel economy.
