There is a site noted in other posts here, that re-mans computers. I think they can also put in any program you want. If the 'mechanicals' ... or 'electricals' in this case are the exact same thing ... transistor, resistor, etc ... then it seems to me that you could re-flash any computer to any other code. As long as the gizzards were the same. The shop that updated yours could possibly have done the same if they knew a way to tell their machine to ignore the "YB#S@" program that was inside, and just "DO WHAT I TELL YOU!" and load the "ZZYZZ" program from scratch.

That's what I thought too, tomw, but I guess the guy running their computer doesn't really know how to use his machine. Could have been lost in the translation from the dumb kid at the front counter also. We ordered a box with the right code today. I'll let you know how that goes when it shows up.

Got the right computer in it and so far so good. Runs smooth and shifts into gear ok. It passed the emissions test and the guy is driving it around. He did say the check engine light came on half way to the test station but it wasn't anything that kept it from passing so we'll have to see what code it threw when he comes back.
