engine will not idle down
i have a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 and automatic. when i come to a stop the engine does not immediately idle down. a few seconds after coming to a stop it will. i have to brake hard to come to a stop. this doesn't happen every time but seems to be happening more and more frequently thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like sticky Egr valve. When it sticks open the engine gets (exaust) air . More air= higher idle. More air makes for lower vacume. Lower vacume means less assist for the power brakes. (assuming you have power brakes). Just a guess tho' I'm not familiar with the newer air systems.

I'd go with the EGR valve, or a bad computer learned idle program. Disconnect the battery for about 1/2 an hour, and Then reconnect it. It'll idle like crap for about the first 20 minutes of driving, but it will re-learn the idle program and everything should be fine...
