So what did you do to your 6.0L today?

which reminds me do i measure the block side of those pins or the head side. the alignment pin has 2 different widths.. pins are wider on the block side than the head side.. so need to know so i can order the studs.

lol it took 3 of us for the passenger side one... dad was trying to keep the bolts up while we lifted... mom was pumping the engine hoist and i was reaching through the fender well to keep the rear of the head off the alignment dowel pin...

No denting required if you buy a 6.0L torque extender adaptor. They work like a charm and they make it easier to torque the head studs when reassembling.
I found the cover on the AC box to hard to remove so I took the whole thing out.

driverside i got all but 1 bolt out and that was the lower one by the firewall... pass side there was 5 i couldnt get out before removing the head... 4 on the bottom and the the rear rocker/head bolt.
pass side would have been a little easier if the A/C stuff wasnt there but after the $1300 bill to just have it fixed in sept i wasnt undoing it...

I'm not sure on the dowels...mine didn't have stepped dowel pins, but my understanding is that you should get either an adaptor sleeve or a stepped dowel pin. Someone else with more knowledge could probably tell you exactly what is needed.
NOT to start a debate, but what head gaskets are you putting in? I used the Black Diamond HG (not to be confused with the Black Onyx HG). So far I have over 10k miles on them and they quite often see 30 plus psi with no issues so far.

I think the early 04/03 engine is most certainly the 18mm dowel. Mine were.

everyone ive talked to said use the factory gaskets.. so thats what i was planning to put back in...
reason im trying to find out how to measure the pins is because in the trucks past the engine was replaced.. so need to figure out what pins i have to order the studs and gasket sets since theres 2 different ones depending on your pin size..

The more I think about it, I think all three versions (large, small, and stepped) came with my HG.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly the only time you need stepped is when you are putting new heads on an older block.

Yup thats it...it was the best extra tool bought for the project. If you have a 1/2 inch torque wrench you'll need to get a 3/4 to 1/2 adaptor socket as well.

i have 3/4 in ratchet and a 3/4 in torque wrench...
had to get the tq wrench for a nut that was on my mustang... 1/2" torque wrenches wouldnt go high enough lol

Bingo--that's what I was thinking.
