THANKS GUYS! A couple more months and we'll be off to the fab shop again to finish my cross member fab and pull the cab so I can paint my frame and get my brake lines in. Joe

You've been working awfully hard and I think you should take a vacation up here to Manitoba this summer. I'll let you supervise my build and feed you all the waleye and perogy's you can eat, lol

Hey Yamagrant - you're making me hungry! I love perogys!

Making some small progress, but it counts!

Just picked up my backing plates and have some other goodies recently assembled:

Backing plates get their grooves welded and smoothed:

My Posies superslider springs W/3" drop:

Everthing is getting ready to be painted including my newly rebuilt rear end:

Too bad you didn't let me know earlier. I had a truck in Sacramento last week and I could have had him drop off a couple dozen of Baba's best perogies.

NIIIICE! Yeah i kinda skipped the chassis cleanup and re-painting. It wasn't too bad but doesn't look nearly as nice as yours is turning out! You decided to keep the stocker rear axle? What gears are you running in it? Mine originally had 3.92s and had no idea what the mix-match 9" that was in my truck had. I think the 9" in my '56 is either 3.50, 3.25 or 3.00s. Still have to investigate that one.

Almost made it, but "U" bolts too long

I made some progress this weekend. I thought I might have 'er sittting on the ground, but "U" bolts for the rear end too long.

I got my springs put up on Saturday:

Cleaned axles and install with backing plates Sun after Mothers' day breakfast (that I made!):

Slid 'er under and "bolted in":

"U" bolts too long, not threaded far enough - Back to the drawing board!!

Need to find and buy the right size - - Maybe she'll be on all four wheels next weekend!!

Happy Mothers' Day!! Joe

I ordered the same ubolts for my '53 after taking leaves out of the pack and ran into the same problem with the amount of thread. I tried getting ubolts from LMC, MidFifty, and Macs and none of them worked. I eventually went to a shop here in KC called KC Spring and for $50 they made some custom ubolts for me.

Hey There,

Just send my 2nd set back (from Speedway) because they were too long.

Spoke to Sacramento Spring and they will make me custom "U" bolts for $65.

Maybe in the next couple weeks I'll get myself over there!! Joe

If it's not making noise or leaking don't fix what ain't broke! If the axle or pinion seals are leaking just replace them. Don't take the rear end apart unless you absolutely have to once they have been worn in.
