Not a big deal. You do need to drop the trans to replace it. You have to compress the plastic bushing and push it in to pull the line off. You can either pick up the line removal tool, or a lot of guys just use and open end wrench. I suggest picking up a Motorcraft slave cylinder. You don't want to have to drop it again because of cheap parts. After all is done be sure to bleed it completely.

when i changed my slave in my 1994 f-150 4x4 it took all day and alot of work i had it grenade in the bell housing so i had a hell of a time getting it off but you need to drop your transmission and transfer case your better off to do it all in one piece but it can be done seperately change your slave and run new lines and a master cylinder too just as a preventative measure

I recently did this...
Unbolted the transmission, removed the hydraulic line, and transmission mount unbolted...
Removed the driveshaft, and had my cousin help me slide the transmission straight back...
From there, it was as simple as it sounds...
2 little bolts is all that holds the Slave Cylinder onto the Input Shaft...
I replaced the CLutch Disc, Pressure Plate, and Flywheel...As a kit...
Made things a LOT easier...
And after doing all this...My clutch was REALLY soft...
And after replacing the Clutch Master Cylinder (Due to the Clutch Rod Eyelet being wallowed out, and that is the only way you can get that rod, is in the Master Cylinder kit...)
The Clutch firmed right up.....
Just lettin ya know....It might be multiple factors causing your issues...
