This diesel is too quiet :)
Quite a complaint isn't it
Went thru a drive thru today and started to turn off my engine like I always did with the Excursion and realized I didn't need to !!!
BUT, to me, it is too quiet,
what do I do as far as exhaust to open it up a bit without challenging any noise restrictions or my marriage knowing I will be towing 10k + pounds some ?
Eventually WILL tune it, so what the proper change for it ?
Do I do just a walker BTM, or a new turbo back or ?!?! (Hmmm, what size exhaust is it stock ?)
Thanks in advance !

The AFE intake gives you a little sound, more turbo whistle and a throaty growl when you drive. No valve clatter though....
I like the AFE. Others have different brands and they like them too.
Age (like kper says) also gets you a little more sound but not nearly what a 6.0 sounds like.
There are some tuned straight pipes here, posted short vids, they sound great but you still don't get the idle clacking sounds.

I had the Airaid Cold Air kit and a Hog industries 4" exhaust on the '05 6.0. It sounded like a jet taking off. I loved it! Now with the 6.7, my neighbors love it. I do have to admit on long trips, or when tugging the toyhauler, I enjoy the quiet. I wish I could have both. A few exhaust systems are showing up in the aftermarket, if you just replace the tailpipe section you should get a little more sound. The cold air kit will give you more sound up front for you to enjoy.

Thanks for the suggestion on intakes... was looking more along the lines of exhaust or mufflers for now until I get some miles on the engine (only @ 300 or so now )
Do you know the size of the exhaust piping as a short term trial could be the walker BTM like is STILL on my 05 ex I traded...
did that until I got a turbo back, but liked it so much and it dropped egt's 200 degrees and so left it !
ah, found a youtube thingy:

You guys a probibly too young to remember the 70 GTO with the VOE (vacuum operated exhaust). Pull the lever under the dash and your mufflers open a door inside and you have strait pipes. They called it their tiger mode. It was rare but they sure dont make them like they used to.
