While moving the sediment is stirred up, and while parked it all settles to the bottom no matter how much fuel is in the tank.

ill offer the other side of the coin with regard to fuel capacity:

my 2000 explorer in the winter gets 15-16mpg at 75mph, which isnt too bad IMO. but it has a 20 gallon tank. doing the math gets you 225-240 miles on 3/4 of a tank. So once the trip odometer hits 200, you had better start seeing how far from a fuel station you are, cauz you got less than about 100miles to find one.

the wife's 2004 F250 gets about 6.5 mpg pulling the goose neck. which gets you about 120 miles on 3/4 tank. by about 150, you are on fumes. it has a 26 gallon tank.

i'd take having to swipe my card twice at the same station, verses swiping it twice at two stations less than 100miles apart.

That being said, we've got a baby on the way, so I suppose I had better get used to it

Guys go into the station with your card. They can accommodate you in their and you wont get shut off, and wont have a hold put on your card either. If you don't know how much you need they will usually will hold your card and you can come back in pay when your filled up.

That's always an option. But I think it's quicker to do two transactions at the pump than:
- walk in
- wait in line
- explain what you want to do and give them CC
- walk back out and fill up
- walk back in, wait in line
- pay and sign
- walk back out to your truck.

Anyway, doing two transactions has always worked for me so far. I guess my post is more of an observation than a complaint. It's a little bit of a nuisance, but I can live with two transactions, it's easier than having to walk into the station and all that.
