Carb swap

I have a 67 with a 390. The old 2v has a leak in it and a rebuild wont help. I want to stay with a 2v, not worried about hp gains. Its just a cruiser. We drive it to church on Sunday and to get ice cream and stuff like that. What carb woud you use? Im prety much a carb dummy

Thanks,
Jeff

What is it that makes you think a rebuild won't help? Those old Autolites are very simple carbs and not really prone to leakage, and tend to be fairly miserly on fuel. Where is it leaking from?

There is a pump of a thing on the side. It looks to be leaking from the piviot poing to the pump of a thing. Can you buy a replacement Autolite carb.? It ran great up until i took it out of storage Saturday. I got to messing with it and noticed the leak and also cant get the carb set right to idle.

Sounds like the accel pump diaphram has ruptured. Pretty simple fix, as that piece comes in a ~$20 carb rebuild kit.

yeah pretty common on the accel pump leaking.
If you don't want to buy a rebuild kit, the local carquest normally has an accelerator pump gasket in the "help" section.

Ill try to get a pic. I also cant get it to run right. When you give it gas it will fall on its face, then pick up and run good. It this problem also associated with the acel pump?

2 most common accel pump issues are: leaking, and a massive stumble as you open the throttle. Usually, these are related. The fuel that is *supposed* to be going into the engine, is going *on* the engine......

1/4" bolts that hild it on and it didnt help any. Is that the accel pump?

That's the critter. Leaking fuel there almost always indicates a blown diaphram.

Perfect description- and might I include, it's leaking around the coil and distributor- you really should park it until it's fixed, unless you're a fire worshipper .
And the square piece with the 4 hex screws and the lever in the middle is indeed the accel pump, the diaphragm is under that cover

Happy you decided to fix it instead of changing the carb.
Nice that you could 'bear' with us.... I mean it isn't like you had to pull the engine to do this.

Nah- you only have to do that to clean the oil drainbacks under the valve covers
