Is the Triton V10 truly a P.O.S for modding?
I just bought a 2005 Excursion 4x4, and I never keep my vehicles stock. I have the V10, and I wanted to get more power. Kenne Bell, and Whipple had a twin screw supercharger I would like to add, but it was discontinued. I do not want to consider a centrifugal. I have seen custom fabricated turbo kits, but no major manufacturer sells one. From reading the forums it seems like this motor is not intended for mods, as anything to add real power would damage the engine. I have seen many people try to put this engine in mustangs, etc and they have been disappointed with its performance. Is there anyway to make this engine accept high HP levels? Would forged internals help it enough to take over 700hp? Is this motor just a bad design?
Any info would be appreciated.

The V10 is not a POS or a bad design. It's excellent for the intended application, but it was not designed for racing, it's a work engine. You can modify it with a turbo or Supercharger but it will not be cheap. Excursions really are not performance vehicles. If you wanted to heavily mod an Excursion you should've bought a diesel not a V10 or 5.4. Swap a Cummins in and build it for all the power you want. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

I never saw a V10 making 700hp. Most people who want that kind of power in a truck are the Lightning guys. The V10 is a work engine so most don't bother trying to turn the wick up on it. You can run 5-6lbs of boost on a stock bottom end reliably but your not going to get near 700hp or even 500-600hp with that little boost. To see even close to 700hp reliably your going to most likely need some sort of custom made forged crank along with a set of 5.4l forged rods and pistons to have a chance of handling the boost needed for those power levels. Even then your in somewhat uncharted territory and will probably have an engine of with a marginally steetability. All the modular aftermarket is for the 4.6l and 5.4l.

Lets pretend I wanted to upgrade this motor for heaving towing applications. Lets say I need 500hp with the gobs of torque that brings with it. I haven't seen ANYONE with success forging the internals. NO ONE. I just want to hear one person anywhere say they have gotten even 500hp on a build V10.

The reason I am asking is to make sure my only options are to move forward with an engine swap. I am planning on a lightning engine swap which I have seen done successfully. If not the lightning, then a modded diesel engine. I bought this truck to be a guinea pig for big power. I would love to forge the V10 and put twin turbo's but I don't think there is any way this engine would survive regardless of internal components.

It's a 2 valve. Not sure why, but he says those work better for his combo. As far as mods, I know that almost everything is/was custom Cams, Tuner, Crank, Rods, Pistons Fuel delivery, etc... a ton of $$$, far more than your normal race car. All done by local guys here in IL. I do know it runs low 9's.

11's in an Ex....man thats rollin! There's $25k or so in the chasis alone. We have the same engine builder and head guy. I know we are in the $30k ball park there...

Search Turbo10 here and on the net for a guy with a custom single turbo. I am currently working on building a version of that myself.
I think the v10 can make 5-600 hp at 8psi boost. We will see i guess.
There is nothing inherently bad about these motors other than peoples fear of them.
I have been doing a ton of research on this so feel free to ask some specifics.
