I've got an FE engine in my '56 so i'm not sure if this will help you out or not. I have a tube-tsyle mount in my truck with stock suspension.
To my knowlege, there are only a couple manufacturers of tube-style engine mounts for these trucks. Trans-Dapt being the biggest one. There are other mount kits that do not use a tube to tie the two mounts together but rather just bolt or weld to each side of the frame. I would NOT recommend using this style. The added support of having the tube there to tie the mounts together is well worth it for the strength. That, and it gives you the option of being able to remove either stock crossmember that is in front or behind the engine if necessary for your installation. Me personally, the FE mount I used didn't exactly work like I wanted it to, but it is of a completely different design than you'd get for your SBF.
What different options are you looking at currently? (post pics or links)

This is the method I use and have never had a failure but I do know of instances where the tube type mounts have. I have done this a couple times. The pics don't show the boxing plates which I have since installed.

I'm interested in your mount pictures. I'm installing a 390 in my'49 F1. My email is randy.tomlinson@tx.rr.com. Thanks, randy

I like the tube type mounts since the ends can be cut so the engine can be offset to one side or the other if desired/necessary. Engines are often offset to the passenger side for steering gear clearance. It doesn't hamper anything to offset it as long as you keep the centerline parallel to the frame. Mid fifty sells tube mounts for most popular engines.
