Glad to find a dedicated group, a lift of the ol lynch lid to Don!

My ride is an '81 E150 cargo "Easy Bake" (as black cargo vans go). Somewhat converted with a padded carpet, insulation behind wood paneling and a steel framed futon to crash on. Many electrical mods and toys. My former ride was a '66 window E-100 P.O. painted 'er up with traffic yellow~no losing that one in a parking lot!

So, hello and howdy to all you fellow Oregonians where we kiss where the sun don't shine

Welcome to the merry little band of Oregon. Don't be shy, stop by the BS pages and BS.
Don only bites on Sundays and Dave only bites if someone interferes with fishing.

Welcome!
I only bite if you are driving a Subaru wagon in front of me doing 15 mph under the speed limit.

Welcome! Looks like I'm the closest member to ya...

I had some choice words I wanted to yell at the yuppie in the toyota suv that cut me off in the dark pouring rain today with my kid in the car... If I would've been in my truck at that time I probably wouldn't have hit the brakes when he tried to slide over.

Semper Fi Evan~ '79-'85 myself

Philomath Blvd. seems to be a gathering point for these sierra golf drivers (slow guys). I'm on a daily commute to/from Philomath and what with the Texas two lane that is Philo Blvd. it seems there's much more often than not a major slowdown from 53rd to 35th despite the speed limit being posted 45. I quite understand about slowing down in the name of caution in congested areas but from 45 down to 20-25?!? and this even when the lights are green.

Philomath Blvd. and 35th is a school zone. If you're there in the morning, you might want to watch out for cops if you're going over 25.

Well, dip me in buttermilk. I don't recall any postings of school zone from 53rd until 35th. Going to watch for it today on my way home.

Had a look this morning joe, I did see the posted school zone sign at 54.7 but normally children aren't present when I roll through at 5:30am going and 6:15pm return. However the sierra golf portion of the road I'm referring to is west of 54.7 where it is indeed posted 45 until the reaches of Philomath itself. Not that I'm any kind of speed demon anymore, but when it's apparent these guys are holding up traffic for one reason or another why not pull over and let the highway train by? The paved shoulder through this section is wide enough for tractors after all.

~Here ends the soap box rant~

Rant on, I am plagued by slow pokes. I don't know why they come out of the woodwork when I drive, but they do.

I don't realize you were going through that early. Do the signs have lights? Not blinking and it's not school zone time.

Yep, Corvallis has loads of retard drivers. It is only beat by Eugene. Especially watch out for Subaru Wagons.

It is actually a traffic violation to not pull off and let traffic by if you're going under the posted limit. It isn't 3 or 5 or any other number - if you're holding up ONE vehicle you're supposed to let traffic pass. It's ORS811.130. If Corvallis wanted to make loads of money, they'd ticket for that.

Not necessarily true and for the most part, unenforceable. Here's the "out":
(2) A person is not in violation of the offense described under this section if the person is proceeding in a manner needed for safe operation.

Nothing in 130 requires you to pull over. That's another statuate, 811.425 and again, good luck on enforcement and conviction in court.
The short version: What is safe for you does not mean it is safe for grandpa. Too much left open for interpretation. A lot of courts I worked with before retirement had a general rule they followed, 10 MPH below the posted/designated speed and at least 5 veh's in line behind the offender not including any police vehicles. I won't even start on the experiences in court with this law.
There is also the bottle neck effect. If you get cars at the head of the pack driving 45, the farther you get back down the string of traffic, the slower you go. Good example is Hwy 18 at Fort Hill (MP 25). That 45 zone will turn 18 into a parking lot clear back to Hwy 101. Most commonly to about MP 13 to 16. When you get to the Ft. Hill restaraunt the speed picks up and every thing is fine with no visible reason for the parking lot behind you. Another example was two college kids that did a "protest" of the old 55 law. They got on the freeway, one in each lane and stayed side by side at 55 MPH. In short order they had traffic backed up for miles.
Not familiar enough with Philomath to venture a guess on that parking lot.

Yeah, I'd be real interested in the experiences with grandpa. One could argue that grandpa shouldn't be driving if he won't do the posted limit....

That said, it wouldn't be a problem if grandpa got out of the way and let traffic flow. The real beef I have with this is that there are the hot-heads that start acting very aggressive when they are stuck behind the slow poke. Yeah, at the root of it the hot head is at fault, but the slow poke is a significant contributor. My goal is to not be killed by the hot head, so both people bother me.

The traffic camera I'd love to see is the one that will ticket someone driving slow in the left lane. Put them in the whole length of I-5 and start collecting the $$$$.
