You know what, I'm not 100% sure about regens. I need to do some more research I guess. My truck seems to stop regenerating the DPF if I come to a stop. So why is it that bad to turn off the truck while in a regen?

IT turns off when you come to a stop, meaning putting it in park or just coming to a stoplight?

Per the manual, you are supposed to keep driving until the regen completes its cycle. The half regens are bad for the system as a whole and will reduce the life of the dpf. Initially, the system told you to keep driving when it was in a mild regen. Ford made a change to the notification after a while that it only tells you to keep driving when it is severely clogged and flashes for 5 seconds to tell you that your truck is in regen mode. Honestly I used to miss this message all of the time when I still had the dpf on. ALso, short trips will dump more fuel into your oil, depending on your truck, if you start and stop multiple times in regen mode.

If it is just a maintenance regen (1 flash saying Cleaning Exhaust Filter) then it stops when I put it in park. I use the System Check to see if it is still cleaning right before and after I put it in park. Once in 15k miles I have had a true dirty DPF regen. The message stays up as a reminder, and I was able to keep driving at decent speed to burn it out. I'll have to get my next oil change done at the dealer and have an analysis done.

these trucks with this DPF system are known to dilute the oil,but alot of diesel's suffer from oil dilution also, neighbor is a diesel mech and said as much but did'nt explain.I drive an isuzu NQR work truck and the service mech. said this truck does too,but not like the 6.4. a previous post about short trips seems to be a good suspect,I've been trying to ride the motorcycle or the other car for short trips since seeing a increase in oil back in feb!

I've had a lot of diesels and there is very minor dilution. (Nonexistent really). The dpf models seem to be noticeable comparatively.

I'm looking into an EGR delete and by-passed the DPF headache by purchasing this baby yesterday.

It's an '05 with 2500 hours on the engine and 95,000 miles. I'll do the EGR delete in the spring. This is a sweet little device.

SCT Performance - iTSX / TSX for Android Wireless Vehicle Programmer**Part Number: 4015

I plan to use it to do the egr delete...
