I think my 6.0 will fit in that thing.

 

Only thing that will ever be in it is a Flathead V-8.

Hey Pat - thanks for the chat. Turns out it is the water pump. Much less expensive fix.

 

So where was the coolant going??

 

Well it turns out that if he lets the truck sit over night outside, then uses remote start and forgets about it, it will drip coolant. The original story was no puddles of coolant. Once we got the thing on the hoist you could clearly see where it had been dripping down the front of the motor. And with the dye in the coolant it was very obvious. And fortunately the oil was a-ok. It looks like it only leaks out of the weep hole when it feels like it. I'm not completely sold on the water pump, but it looks like it's his best bet so far. He isn't amused when I say, "You're going to have to pry my 7.3 out of my cold dead hands" especially since my truck used to be his. He had to have the 6.0 because the 7.3 was too loud............
