Drilled mine out and installed the probe. Have never had a problem with it.

Exhaust feeds the turbo and you dont want chips going to the turbo. I read a thread that described starting the project wit the truck cold, drilling and tapping with it running to blow the debris out. Should have plenty of time to get it all done before it gets to hot, just have everything ready to go when you start. Will try to find it.

I started with a small bit, and worked my way up. Also kept a strong magnet attached to the manifold and cleaned after each cut. All the while kept shop vac near.

I just drilled it as well... then I drove it 330mi the next day. No problems! I use two bits to drill the hole... started with a 3/16" bit and finished with a 21/64" bit. Then I tapped it and set the probe! I did the same on a Cummins once, but I dipped my drill bits and tap in grease. The grease caught most of the chips and only left really fine shavings in the manifold... thought that was pretty cool. Either way, no problems with either trucks. I know this is how most guys do it and I haven't heard of anybody having issues doing it this way.

Shouldn't have any issues there as there are wire looms under the truck attached to the same lines.

Where are you going to be putting your probe? I put mine on the left header right before the manifold curves down to the up-pipe... put it right about where #8 dumps into the header. To my knowledge, this is where most guys put it.

I install them about 1" back from the up pipe connection on the manifold.

Here is the best way to install a probe.

Drill...

Tap...

Install...

Done.

dumb question: can you install two thermocouples for EGT and toggle them on 1 gauge? I had Banks send me a second thermo and I want to install it in manifold
My current thermo is install in a Banks Power elbow after turbo(non ebv outlet flange)

Or is another EGT gauge BEST?

I've heard of guys doing that with Oil and Coolant temperatures using a single gauge. I'm sure you already know this, but you won't getting accurate EGT readings after the turbo... exhaust gas can cool a great deal by the time it makes it out the turbo. You want to get as close as you can to the actual temperatures coming out of the cylinders.

that is what I have been dealing with since installing my EGT gauge/thermocouple in the Banks Power Elbow(post turbo)
I want to remove that and install a pre-trubo in exhaust manifold

Yup... makes a huge difference. Did that on a Dodge and the difference was incredible.
