Like you said, the SD 60 has the non-serviceable hub, then you would also need new rims; also the SD is wider, so you would need to move the spring perches (the dirvers side is cast into the housing). It's not much and I've seen people just spread the OBS spring to make them fit, but then your springs are at an angle. I think if you are going to go through the trouble of installing SD axles, you might as well go all the way and use the 05+ coil spring D60.

I noticed a lifted OBS f150 in the neighbor hood that had a dual shock system and a coil. Would the 05 have the same setup? Would the carrier attach to the frame the same way?

!!!ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT!!!

I've just read though this whole thread and have a question not directly answered far as I could find:

Can SD hubs be swapped directly onto a OBS axle without modification?

I'd like to use SD wheels on my truck without an axle swap, or disk brakes or drilling for OBS rims etc.

I purely want to use the SD lug pattern on my OBS so my wife and I can have one set of rims/tires between my 97 F350 and her 2000 Excursion. We both use factory steelies painted matte black running 255/85 R16 Cooper ST Discoverer Maxx tires. Having one interchangeable set between the two makes maintenance and spares easy.

No. SuperDuty hubs have very short spindles, 2.250" inner bearing and 2.000" outer bearing. Different wheel seal diameter too, 2.955". The spindle is also only about 3-5/8" long too. The OBS trucks have a couple possibilities, the most common being a 2.500" inner bearing and a 2.000' outer bearing.

I'd like to use SD wheels on my truck without an axle swap, or disk brakes or drilling for OBS rims etc.

Is there a difference between the rims anyway?

Thanks for the info, I didn't see this explicitly mentioned, however it stands to reason that more than just the bolt-pattern on the hubs was different.

Yeah, they both have different stud patterns. That is why the dude in this thread was drilling his SD hubs for new studs, because he wanted to use his existing OBS wheels.

I just wanted to have one set of wheels that were interchangeable between the two....guess not

Wish it was that easy, this lug pattern change is one of the worse decisions Ford has ever made. But sorry no, you'd have to do some significant work on one of the rigs to convert it to the others pattern. Between the two it'd probably be easier and better to make the Excursion 8x6.5.

By having the Excursion hubs drilled out to the OBS pattern like in this thread right?

Probably, I've never done the research on it, it's not an issue for me. But yes best of my knowledge.

It would be easier to swap your OBS to SD axles. PMF makes a RSK so that you can bolt on a SD front springs and an SD D60. You could probably recoup the cost of the SD axles with the sale of just your OBS D60.

Proper studs for conversion to 8x6.5

Aetnascrew.com makes the proper wheel stud to drill out a SD 8x170 rear hub down to 8x165.1(8x6.5) The Large step on this stud(about 3/4”) makes it possible to machine out the old 9/16 hole. I put the sterling 10.5 in a sportsmobile van because I blew up the semi-float D60. Even with this stud the stud capture isn’t 100% ..... so I ran a bead on the outer edge and flap disced down smooth again .... I bought the wheel studs from sportsmobile directly for $7.00 a stud
PN (Q1WR-0004)... I think you can get them directly from Aetnascrew.com
for less $. If I had to do it again asking Aetnascrew if they make a 9/16 stud with even a larger flange maybe 7/8” would work better to capture the stud better.
