King-Seeley Water Temp Sender

Besides MAC's, does anyone know of a supplier of the King-Seeley Bi-metal water temp senders? They run in reverse (ohms-wise) of the post-56 (or '7) type. I'm trying to resurrect my 51 and 50 water temp gauges, and the 60-70's senders sort of work except hot is cold !

239 flatty: Two different water temperature sending units are used in 1948/53 trucks and 1949/53 Passenger Cars, one in each head.

8A-10990 .. Temperature Sending Unit-Two Terminals / Obsolete

1948/53 239 Trucks / 1949/53 239 Passenger Cars.
-------------------------------------------------
8A-10884 .. Temperature Sending Unit-One Terminal / Obsolete

1948/55 I-6, 239 & Y block Trucks / 1949/55 I-6, 239 and Y block Passenger Cars.

There are a few of each of these senders available NOS (I'll list the souces if interested), but Dennis Carpenter (800-476-9653) has both of them, prolly made in China repro's.

Note: The 1956 temperature sending unit is 1956 only and was used in all I-6 & V8 FoMoCo vehicles.

Have you tried reversing the connections on the back of the gauge?

Reversing doesn't make a difference, as the gauge is just a coil that heats up and deflects the needle. It, unfortunately, doesn't care which direction the little electrons flow, the coil will slow them down, create a little heat, and deflect the needle.

ford 99A 10884 temp sending unit

Hi, I saw your old post about temp sending units? I am looking for a ford 99A 10884 if you had any thoughts on where to find one, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi gpw, welcome to FTE the best Ford truck Forum on the World Wide Web!

FYI, this is an old thread daring back to Jan 2012. I don't know if the original poster will reply. Maybe you should start a new thread.

In the meantime show us pics of your truck.

A related question. Has anyone tried using one of the factory early 2 post sensors as a single sensor?

The 2-terminal sender is a switch that opens at ~212°. You can use just the 1-terminal sender to run the gauge.

Ross,
Thanks for the tutorial. So, the 2 post is an off/on switch. I happen to have multiple 2 post switches but no extra singles.

Yes, the 2 post is an "on/off" switch. In normal operation, the switch is "on" allowing the temperature reading from the single post to flow through the dual post to the gauge. If the dual post gets to hot, the switch goes to "off" which causes the gauge to go to it's rest position of "H".

Hi Abe,
Thanx for the greeting. I guess I have to post a few more times to start a new one.
