Another 351m/C6 to 460!!
Well I decided instead of building a 351m I was just going to go big. So I'm going to buy a re-manufactured long block engine from a place in Texas. I want to use my C6 that I have. I need to know what I need to do to get it swapped.
This is only a street truck so I was going to go with these motor mounts.
460 Mts.351-M, 400 Bronco, F150, F250, F350
Also heard when going through the swap threads that there is something you need to do to get the torque converter to bolt up to the 460. If someone could explain that to me that would be great.
Will the Distributor, Valve covers swap?
Going to need a power steering pump bracket if anybody has one?
Well I have all the parts for the 351m still so anything that will swap over would be good to know.
Any opinions would be great.
Thanks in advanced.
Jon

The crank pilot (at least that's my redneck term for it) is what the snout of the torque converter centers on.
If the 460 is an early model it will have a fe sized crank pilot. If it is the later model it will have a the same size crank pilot as your 351m and you can use the same torque converter.
The same year they swapped crank pilots, ford also began externally balancing these motors.
Do not use the flywheel from your 351m. It will bolt up i think. But it will not work.

This engine uses a weighted spacer. The harmonic balancer and flex plate are specific to this casting number which was used thru 1997.
D1VE-6015-AB is the block casting number for 1971/73 429's, 1971/78 and some 1979 460's. Does not have a weighted spacer. The harmonic balancer/flexplate are not the same as used with the D9TE block.
D9TE: Since this "running change" occurred mid-year 1979, there is no before/from certain serial numbers or production dates. The casting number must be known to get the correct parts.
Passenger Cars were not available w/a 460 after 1978. Ford did not offer the 460 w/4WD or w/a manual trans until 1983. 1968/82: C6 only.
D1SZ-6375-A .. C6 Flexplate-Use with block casting number prefixes: C8VE, C9VE, DOVE, D1VE.
D9TZ-6375-A .. C6 Flexplate-Use with block casting number prefix: D9TE.

you will have significant vibration issues. that will eventually cause bearing failures and other expensive problems
