Transmission Range Sensor Malfunction - P0705
Truck threw a P0705. I searched around the forums and first I cleaned the connection between the harness and the sensor b/c ppl said sometimes the connection just gets corroded / wet. Then the code came back one week later. So I replaced the TRS with a new one (Motorcraft).
The P0705 code still came back approx week later.
Normally the truck shifts great, but on occasion I feel a hard shift (< 5% of the time)
What do I check now? Seems like there may be a short somewhere... anyone have ideas?

Thank you projectSHO89 and Longdistancetrucker. I had a Ford buddy that ended up looking at it. My tranny is a E4OD. The problem ended up being a loose connector in the distribution box beside the battery under the hood. The harness that runs from the TRS, then above the tranny, then around and clipped onto the passenger side valve cover eventually plugs into a connector behind the 175 amp mega fuses. One of the connectors has a small bolt in it and it was all the way loose. We tightened it up and no more codes!!
Check that connector!

All the TRS does is tell the computer what position the gear shift lever is in (in addition to the starter circuit in P or N).
It's likely possible to affect OD operation if the PCM thinks the lever is in some other position, especially if it's intermittent. You might want to clarify what your specific symptoms are.

The trs code has been there for a couple weeks but no immediate problems so I've procrastinated repair, I was driving, pulling a quad and trailer. Next thing I know if I get past 38mph the engine revs then gears back down. I pull the valve body to check for broken parts, snap rings, etc... Accumulator retainer ring seems to be missing... Hope this helps.
