noisy power steering pump
I agree with Honney. I did the swap on my 89 F150 302. I used the high pressure hose from the donor van, had to carefully bend it slightly. I think the van was a 1987 E150. Pump and bracket were $50 at the local junk yard.
The Saginaw pump is capable of higher output pressure, which I require to turn larger than stock tires. The Ford pump would not give enough assist at slow speeds. The Ford pumps also tend to be noisy. To quiet them down the bleeding procedure is as follows: Lift the front wheels of the ground and turn the steering wheel lock to lock about 15-20 times without the engine running. Some fluid may leak out the cap so be prepared. This is how I have silenced a few.
