Raise your hand if you have....
...
... ever SUCCESSFULLY re-used the HPOP reservoir gasket...
...SUCCESS being defined as no leaks after re-installation.
Reason I am asking is that we just did that twice this weekend, and so far, there appears to be no leaking from the base of the reservoir.
We had to R&R Benjamin's HPOP so we could do the o-rings and non-serviceable plug replacement to address what had become a very large oil leak. When we got to the part of taking the lid off the reservoir, the PO's mechanic had RTV'd the lid securely in pace, so we just decided to remove the entire reservoir, even though we did not have a new gasket. I figured, if it leaks, we can remove it again easily enough and use some RTV.
Turns out, when Benjamin put the HPOP back in, he got the new HPOP gasket cocked off enough so that the bolts went through the open areas above and below the bolt holes, which means it did NOT seal, and when we were cycling the fuel pump and turning the engine over to refill the HPOP, it blew oil all over the place. We did another R&R this morning to replace that HPOP gasket with another new one I had set aside for a different vehicle, but the process required one more "out and in" for the HPOP reservoir as well... on the SAME re-used gasket. Again, no evidence of leaking around the base.
So... we're keeping our fingers crossed at this point, and I was just curious if any of you others who have R&R'd HPOP's had had similar success, and if so, how long were you able to run before replacing the reservoir gasket.
Thanks,

But I'm guessing you can't see my hand.
You could say I've removed a reservoir and re-used the gasket before.
They make an o-ring dressing that is just a sticky substance which helps to hold o-ring gaskets inplace so they don't move on you. If it's a flat surface, something like lithium grease will also help keep things in place when you put the parts back together. Of course this all assumes the gasket is in good shape to begin with. If it seems worn or swolen or damaged in any way, it's best to just replace it.

I would agree, but it's Peter. I couldn't get him to replace his leaking ICP forever, and then it left him in the middle of nowhere and cost him about $300.
