OT- Need suggestions on where to move

Round Rock isn't soo little anymore. All the growth in the last 10 years has changed the place. They have built all the new tollways and overpasses. And all the new jammed in housing development have eaten up the beautiful country-side.
They started referring to the area as the "Austin-Round Rock Metro area". I've started calling the area "Little California". It's not the rural place it use to be.

That saddens me. I remember that we lived in a duplex on the outskirts of town. Down the hill from our house was roads and cleared lands that did not have housing additions built yet. We could watch the jack rabbits race across the vast open rocky expanse on the hot summer days. In early summer the grass hoppers were so plentiful that we couldn't ride our bikes down the street with out squishing so many under the tires. The rattlesnakes would come out and bask in the warm sun; which made for some hair raising bike rides. There was a new multiplex theater that opened not far from our duplex. It was close enough that we could walk across the undeveloped field and go catch a movie. I remember walking the fields and picking up fossils and arrow heads. Man, i wish i had kept all those i collected. I remember a stream where we could walk when the water was low and we could fit our tiny feet into giant limestone foot prints of the dinosaurs that used to roam the area. Wow, sometimes we just don't know how amazing some things are until we no longer have them. Oh well, i've got my memories at least. Ahhh.....good times....good times....

......I've been to Sheridan WY, stopped there after visiting Custer, er...Little Big Horn Battlefield, stayed at the Holiday Inn and visited King's Saddlery & Museum.
It's a nice little town, but appears to offer few opportunities to make a living.
Buffalo WY (located in Johnson County) is another nice little town, close to Kaycee where Hole in the Wall is located (made famous by the Butch Cassidy gang).
The Occidental Hotel where Owen Wister wrote "The Virginian" and the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum are worth visits. The famous Johnson County War (cow-boys vs ranchers) occurred in the Powder River Basin in 1892.

Eastern MT thru western ND oil patch: wages are decent, but housing is non-existant, a place to park a trailer during the winter rents for more than a 3 bdrm house in high priced markets. It's not all gravy - just sayin'
I think I live in the best place in the US. Just have to enjoy winter, but we do have water and good people - must be heaven lol
edit: I can't believe you invited this bunch to tell you "where to go" hahaha

Hands down I think South Carolina has a lot to offer. Good weather year round. Aiken SC and Camden SC have a lot of horse farms and quite a few race horses. Also a lot of good companies looking for qualified drug free employees. Easy access to mountains and beaches. I live south of Columbia and have worked around this area all my life. Enjoy going to Columbia and everywhere else around SC, NC, and Georgia. I had a friend who moved here from New Mexico and had a hard time adjusting to the crowded feeling with all the big trees he was not used to. Good luck wherever you end up going.

And if you need a good Realtor, well, I just happen to know a guy...
Kennewick Real Estate Homes Properties and Lots

I would select Eastern Wa too!
Second choice would be NV. (Reno Area---South)
Both Wa and NV have NO income tax!!
Cheers,
Rick

Tombstone isn't too far away from Bisbee, neither is Fort Huachuca (locals call it Fort Hoochie-Coochie), or the 'newish' bedroom community of Sierra Vista.

well i don't really have any suggestions for ya. And i didn't really read the whole thread but just thought id say good luck and ill miss seeing your truck around. Just goes to show how different people are. All the reasons you hate Sheridan and Wyoming is exactly why i love it. There are a few to many rich old people though, wish they would all leave so it would be a true ranch town again. I love the wide open space and being able to see for miles with out a single building but my family was in Nebraska in the 1880s and left New York around 1850 so i guess we like our space. Don't come to Laramie there is even less to do than Sheridan unless you bartend, serve food, or teach at UW. Good luck
