Need advise on good electric fuel pump
We purchased an 89 F250 that has a carbed 460 with 4spd manuel trans. It used to have a 351w in it that was fuel injected but the PO swapped that out for the 460 and made it carbed. The thing has a mechanical pump on the block, but it is not drawing enough fuel from the tank to keep it running. It has a clear fuel line and you can see the fuel there, but in spurts. I do not know if they left any in tank pumps in there, but i see that they took out the frame mounted hi-pressure one.
I am scrapping both front and rear tanks and putting a fuel cell in the bed. Its just an off roader (truck pulls, mudding etc) and doesnt need room for 25+ gallons of fuel.
What is a good electric pump to use for this 460? Where should i mount it? closer to fuel cell or under the hood?

As far as mounting goes, electric pumps are better "pushers" than "pullers" so the closer to the tank (or switching valve if running dual tanks) the better. On my 69 Bronco with dual tanks I've got my Holley Red mounted on the frame just downstream of the manual switching valve and the regulator mounted on the driver's side inner front fender with a guage for easy access. Also a good idea to run two filters, one pre-pump and one pre-carb.

If you're going with a permanently mounted gauge, get a liquid filled one. Gives you a real nice steady readout. I ordered mine through Summit for $21 or so, 0-15 psi on the face, real easy to read w/ a steady needle.

I like the airtex plunger pumps, heavy duty 100% duty cycle and no rotors to wear out.
its E8090 and that part number can also be had at any parts store that has airtex pumps.

Personally, I prefer the Carter pumps-I've sold lots of them and the Holleys over the years, and I've found the Carter to be more reliable & quieter.

The P4070 is a good pump and the Early Bronco community swears by them. I actually ran one before switching to the Holley Red. For whatever reason it started overpressurizing my fuel system to the point that my rig wouldn't run at all (WAY too much press to the carb). I couldn't source rebuild parts or a replacement through any of my local chain stores however, they ALL stocked Holley Reds. Made the switch and been runnin' like a raped ape ever since without a hitch.

I may end up using the Holley red. Thanks for the information guys!
( Still not made up my mind so any other opinions welcome)
