Well now... for starters I'm a cheap tightwad, mostly by necessity. I don' thave a huge budget. My truck money comes out of whatever spare change I can save up in my pockets. When it builds up I put it in a can, when the can gets full I convert it to cash and can buy truck parts....its a slow process.
I got the truck for free, a guy gave me $600 cash and the 49 F1 for my 49 Pontiac SilverStreak. Since then I think I've spent about $1500 total on various parts here and there; disc brake conversion, radiator, wiring, etc

I try to do my builds as cost effectively as possible without cutting corners and sacrificing my vision for the project in the name of just getting it done cheaply. I save a few bucks where I can to make it easier to spend a few bucks where they're needed. One thing I don't do is keep receipts for parts and build-related stuff on my projects anymore. I tried that once and after I added it all up, the bottom line sticker shock nearly scared me away from working on cars and trucks altogether. When you add up the bill and find out you've got almost $20,000 tied up in a 40 or 50-year-old vehicle that still needs paint and some other misc. tidbits to be finished, it's way too easy to let your mind start thinking about all the other stuff you could have done with that pile of money instead. It's a lot easier to swallow when it dribbles away a little here and there over a couple years.
I guess what it all comes down to for me is that very few if any of us are hanging out in this forum to keep our daily driver on the road so we can get to work every day. This is a hobby and hobbies are expensive. What do golfers tie up in clubs and greens fees? How much do avid sports fans blow on tickets, beer, and hot dogs? How much do coin or stamp collectors have invested in their collections? At least when we're done, our investment has left us with a useful, enjoyable automobile to tool around in. You can't put a price on your labor either. You really can't even call it "labor". All those quality hours spent out in the shop putting our rides together help us stay sane and escape the drudgery and worry of the rest of our lives. It isn't important to me if my project is only worth 2/3rds of what I put into it when it's done. The fun and enjoyment I got out of building it has already made me filthy rich!

About 8500.00 so far. Thats a complete drivetrain, chassis and new bed complete. Still have the body work to complete and paint. Then wiring and interior to complete. I gave myself a limit of 15K and 5 years to complete this project. I'm probably gonna go over on both but not by much. Thats on the 53. The 54 cost me a grand and I put another 500 in it and it is driveable now but it is all stock right down to the brakes. The 51 5 star cost me 2 grand and I haven't touched it yet.

Man Id have to add up a box of receipts 8" deep, but running things I remember through My head, it comes to about 14K so far. Probably a horible finantial investment, but comon, thats not what drives Me, I love My truck. I have loved every busted knuckel along the way. Its defenitly not the best truck on the site, but its My truck, and thanks to you all on FTE, I was abel to get it to this point myself. Thank you all.

56 F100
My wife passed away September 21, 2011 and before she died I promised her that I would strap her urn in the 56 and take her for one more trip ( Pigeon Forge in May or June ) so I dropped the truck off at the shop and said finish it ( new paint and interior ) Nice job and price to go with it. Anyway I have less money in my new 2011 F150 4x4, super cab, 3.5L twin turbo. But guess which one is the most fun.

I don't know for sure on mine. I almost hate to even think about it. With all of my many, many , many do overs and changed plans I'm probably already in the $8,000-$10,000 range. And all I've really got to show for it is a rusty pile of parts with some fancy gauges.
I've got another $17,000-$20,000 to get it to where I want it. What can I say I'm an idiot!
