I thought Ford didn't have the 22.5 available until 1956.

This is a great pic. I made it the desktop on my computer. I too thought the "white" truck was odd, as I've never read any paint spec sheet that showed white trucks this early on. Glad you guys straightened that out as being Birch Grey, as I was starting to think about getting my F4 painted white. I like white trucks. Now I've got to see if I like Birch Gray... It sure looks good in this pic IMHO.

EDIT: I just Googled Birch Gray, and it doesn't look at all like white to me. It's actually a rather dark gray on the chips I've found.

One source says that Birch Gray was a Fleet color.

I thought they had them earlier but I could be wrong, I had a set on the '51 F-4 I have but they could have been installed years after the truck was new. That's a question for Truckdog.

Well, I know that on the F500/F600 1956 was the first year they were available.
Here's a LIFE magazine ad from 1955, it says the NEW tubeless available in '56..

All sizes of tubeless truck wheels having the 1/2" measurements were introduced in 1956. Stu

That grey in the chip doesn't look correct. And as a point of reference, the green they show that seems almost black, is the green that's on all the green trucks in the photo. It's not really that dark, either, obviously.

My F1 is Birch Grey. Can look pretty light depending on the light.

I LIKE THAT! Thanks for sharing this picture of your F1, blsd49. What color is your interior, seat, headliner, etc...?

Exactly! I can remember that it was a treat for my folks to take color pictures, because it was so much more expensive than B&W for developing and printing. Usually if they wanted to take pics in color, they took slides. No matter what, people didn't used to snap off a roll of pictures the way people shoot digital pics nowadays, or take pictures of mundane things like a parking lot full of trucks.

I just happened across this picture. The caption on the website claims it is inside the same Edgewater plant in 1949. Notice the same little stickers in the windows. Too bad it's not in color too.

Here's the website if anybody wants to look further. It's focused on the shoeboxes, and most of the language is foreign (Portugese I think, but heck what do I know? I barely know English sometimes). The pictures are absolutely ASTOUNDING.
