We dunk electrical cords in water all the time at work. Unless it is salt water nothing happens. There is actually nothing unsafe about that pic at all. Try it out, fill your tub, stick a cord in the water, and then see if you get shocked if you dip your hand in. No really, try it.

More than one person has been electrocuted that way. Microphone falling into a pool etc. Pure water doesn't conduct well, can you guarantee how pure someone else's water is? Can you guarantee that nothing has contaminated it that might increase conductivity? Can I sue you if something happens

Try it with the MIL next time she visits and uses the tub...........she won't mind.

I have an outlet in an outdoor sump crock . If the pump craps out the plug ends up under water , still live . I have had to fix it several times without being shocked . I at least expected to have it pop the breaker . Not so far .
