300 cylinder head porting questions
Hey guys, been looking for pictures of an in line 6 cylinder head (preferably 300), before (and/or) after porting/ polishing. (head removal in general is also good)
I have been thinking of doing this for my truck (1985 F150 in line 6 300) along with a new exhaust to help with performance by increasing efficiency.
Correct me if I am wrong but a new exhaust, cams and port/polish cylinder head are some of the main things for improved performance on these engines.
Here's the thing though for the port/polish I am not talking getting it professionally done. This truck is a learning experience for me; I am not building a race truck, just doing this out of fun and interest so I would be doing it myself with some basic tools and a lot of patience with limited expectations of the result (a small improvement).
That being said I would appreciate any info and help.

There were some drawings posted but they seem to have been removed.
Do a Google search too. Keep in mind that while the principles of porting are the same they must be applied with a specific engine and goal in mind.

Use some old valves to protect your seats when polishing the c.chamber. Don't use the carbide bits first go, if at all. They take off way too much for a novice. Study the vids on youtube, its all the same principle. All you want to do is use 110 grit rolls and smooth out the runners, then clean up the bowls, round up any 'flow' corners in the downstream flow, polish the c.chambers. You can get a die grinder at Harbor freight for about $40, and the party pack of discs for about $20.
