Over 110k on a set of Michelins on 4x4 Ex?!?! Anyone else?
Fellas -
Ex is 2003, 7.3, 4x4. Daily driver, used for a fair amount of towing - - several thousand miles/year towing an open car trailer with a musclecar on it - maybe 10,000 pounds max.
Tires are Michelin LTX A/T2, 285/75/16 (slightly bigger than stock). These are a 10 ply tire, E load rating - $220 each at Tire Rack - Michelin LTX A/T 2
I bought the Ex with about 35k miles and replaced tires at 61k, so I assume the ones that I replaced were the originals. Truck now has 151k miles so Michelins now have 90k miles. They've got a good bit of wear on 'em, so I went to the tire store to get 4 new ones last week. Guy looked at them and told me that the wear indicators didn't indicate that they needed to be replaced yet. He thought I might be able to get another 20k out of them?!?!?! 110k on a set of tires would be very nice, indeed!
I keep the tires rotated (every 8k miles, without fail), fully inflated (max is 75 PSI or so; I keep 'em at 65 psi), but that's about it.

I had similar situation with Hancock tires. I bought the truck with the tires already showing some use (utility company drove over rocks) and put additional 80,000 miles on them. Finally couple of them blow up I believe because of age, still having legal thread on them.
I have 19.5" wheels on my dually.

I think it's more of the rotation schedule and truck alignment/ driving style more than anything as I got 95k on a set of stock bfg's on my 05 Ex....
these large tires, as long as they are taken care of, should last a while !
10k on my 12's 20's so far and no appreciable wear (ready for my 2nd rotation)

I must have the worst driving style ever as I'm seeing the opposite of the norm here. I have about 15k on mine and think I can maybe get another 5-10k out of them. I rotate every 5k and have 'em aired up.
I got almost 40k out of my Toyo M/T's on my 2000, then again, I didn't have the hp that I have now... hmm..

I'm crowding 84k on my AT/2s and not at the wear bars yet. I don't rotate nearly as often as I should. They have been getting a little goosey in the rain (not that we've had much) so I intend to replace them before winter, wear bars or not. By far the best truck tire I've ever owned. I don't treat them well, lots of gravel and unimproved roads and probably have been overloaded a time or two.

I've been checking out Nitto Terra Grapplers and in the same size they're nearly 100 bucks a copy cheaper than the Michelins, seem to get pretty good reviews too, although the manufacturer tread depth on the Nittos is 16/32" vs 18/32" on the Michelins so they may not last as long?

Would those be Continentals? I took mine off at less than 2000 miles when the truck was new because they were UNSAFE in the rain, mist, humidity etc. I can't imagine what they would have been like in the snow.
