My last 427 with race bearing clearances, Milodon gear drive, .007 piston clearance and low-tension rings took 7 ft.lbs. to rotate the shortblock

WOW - that seems like a lot!

I know this thread is a few months old, but goood info as I always check this value. Just putting one together here myself and I got 3-5 lbs just crank and 45lbs with pistons (no cam or chain).

Just the honing finish will add/subtract quite a bit... especially depending on ring material and tension.

Yeah I was not too comfortable with it. I had a new hone and cast rings and the bearings might have been a thousand too tight. Rear main seemed to add the most drag. Checked what I could, finally just moved on. 800 miles later seems to be doing okay.
