Front end / Steering wheel shacking 58+

Lets get straight to the issue here. Changing lanes at about 60 in a slight left turn on the highway. I my front end ( I believe my left tire) started shacking violently which lead to my steering wheel shacking as well. I just got my 98 Edition 4x4 (176k on body & 76k+ on I believe 00 5.4) back about a month ago after the year and few months no driving her...Anyway, I let off the gas and covered the brake and let her coast with out changing lanes and once she decreased to back to 50 it stopped. Further down the road I thought I test it out just to see. I got close to 60 again and there goes the loathing shack again. So of course slow down move to right lane and stay about 50. Lately, I have been hearing a clunk or knock noise when weight shifts on the front tire. Took the flash light outside and did some quick checking, my bushings look pretty rioted out on the left side but the right side looks worse, but the noise is on the left side not the right, huh? This is the family daily driver since the van is down (can't win for losing here & that's another story "THANKS FORD & cheap parts!"). Tires look pretty dry rioted as well after seating for so long i guess. I was told possibly lower ball joint or wheel bearings. Everything to me is at the top of the list, new: tires, bushings and one or both of the two just mentioned. Any pointers you guys can give. Looks like I backed myself into a corner getting this truck back on the road, but I love this truck of course not more then my 5 kids, but still tons of love.

I have read a few of the post in other parts of the Forum and thinking it could be shocks as well.WTF!!! I guess this xmas eve I'll be looking at all this & will run a test in the morning...well later in the morning it is now 3:28 on the east coast.

I suggest that you do not take your kids out in that truck until you have gone through the front end completely.
Dry rotted tires, bad bushings, possibly bad tie rods, ball joints and bad shocks sounds like a train wreck heading your way. Please park that truck until you can do the work on it that it needs. The life you save may be mine.

I took her out last night instead of waiting. The steering wheel started shacking at 55 and up to 60. No real serious bumps on this stretch of road (shockingly). Then came back home, I got back up to 55 no shack, until I started changing lanes. To double check after it I turned the wheel slightly again and it started shacking again. What could that be?

Yes, after that she was pulled back in the driveway and I took the van to take the kids to school. The van is only having a code P0401 issue and sucking up crazy gas, so driving them to school was not really an issue. Going to Ford to get some parts and looking from some good tires.

The P0401code is an EGR issue that might have your ECM operating in the failsafe mode.

How would I go about fixing that. I changed the EGR pressure senor no go on that, and the IMRC linkages I am searching for a local spot to buy the clips besides the dealer.

I talked to a buddy of mine & the company I had work on my truck a few months back today & going to focus on the wheel bearing & bushing. Going to have to borrow tools and buy some new ones but that's life!!Saturday will go tire hunting. So glad I already got gifts for my kids early this fall & thank you to Toys for Tots, I wouldn't been able to do it with out you!!

Thanks for the link will go on tonight and see what it is all about. Ended up just making my own clips, darn pain in the ..... I just hope it takes care the code so I can give my sweety her ride back with better gas mileage and no light. Of course I will have to drive her over 30 miles to see but hey it will be worth it. I got the clips for 2.35 and a rotary tool for 19.99 that I used to make them the right size, better than 42 and some change from the dealer .

I am ordering the Hub Bearings from ebay found a few I am looking at not sure, but know I need them before this year is up neva know when that good snow will drop.
