2005 Explorer Mileage/Issues
Just picked up a 2005 4x4 Explorer with 70k. Wondering what I should expect to start failing at what mileage in the future (hopefully distant...).
When compressing the front end like going over a speed bump, there is a squeeking and pogo-ing shock action, Im assuming the factory shocks/struts are toast and hoping thats whats squeaking. Is there a common "squeak point" in these front ends after some miles?
Thanks for any info.

I'm not sure there's a standard mileage when any items typically fail. Of course at 70k you should consider replacing the spark plugs and fuel filter if they have not recently been changed, you're probably about due for another battery, and you should consider having the transmission fluid drained, filter replaced, and fresh fluid to replace what was drained.
A pretty common squeak point in several Fords are the ball joints and/or tie rod ends. What I generally do to diagnose which joint is the issue is to first determine which side of the vehicle the squeak seems to be coming from. I then poke a small hole in the dust boot for the outer tie rod end and insert the straw from a can of spray white lithium grease through the small hole. After a couple squirts of grease I jounce the vehicle to work the grease in and see if the noise goes away. If it does, I now know which part needs to be replaced. If the noise remains or doesn't go completely away momentarily, I then do the same to one of the ball joints. Of course if there is any plan in any of these parts, replace them even if they are not the source of the noise.
