If you take a look at how old the posts are in this section and look at some of the threads you will see that NO truck will use it. It died before it ever got close. I think for realized that it would have taken too much money away from the superduty sales. The truck would have only been about 5-10 thousand less than the superduty. If you really want a 1/2 diesel wait until toyota gets theirs to the public because it is coming soon.
I saw a new model F150, probably an '09 or '10, with a diesel engine in it! About a year ago I was working one night and a burglar alarm went off at a local heavy equipment business. It was about 5 AM and when I arrived to check the alarm, some of the employees were arriving for work. The business is called Brandies Equipment. They have several big service trucks and some light duty pickups for their employees to drive. One of the employees pulled up in an extended cab 2wd F150 with Brandies Equipment on the side of it. It was probably an '09 or '10 model truck. It was setting there running and it was DEFINITELY a diesel! I didn't think much about it and wasn't aware of the mythical 4.4 yet. I don't know if it was a 4.4 in it or what but I do know it was a diesel! I wish I has asked to open the hood and take a look and some pics! I will make a point to go by there when they open a few mornings and see if I can see the truck again. So my point is that I know for a fact that there is at least one newer model F150 with a diesel engine in it running around here!
I was thinking maybe a test production or something. I doubt that someone put a diesel engine in it cause it's a company fleet truck. I am very curious now so I will find that truck again and take some pics.
It was probably just a 5.4 with bad cam phasers. They sound awful when they go bad.
Nope, I'm familiar with the cam phaser sound. I've got two buddies that had to have a new engine put in their F150's cause of cam phasers, one was an '04, one was an '06 that's in the dealership right now. It was most definitely a diesel.
The 4.4 was cut, I'm sure, because of the new Ecoboost engine. The advantage of the 4.4 would have been mileage, and the Ecoboost gets great mileage, without the added costs of the diesel.

The ecoboost gets great mileage??
I don't consider 22 MPG to be very good.
