I recently saw a post that had a poll on it regarding members opinions on the different grills that the 73-79 Trucks had on them, and it got me thinking what did people like more, Trim in the Dent or a Smooth Dent?
Mine has the race track trim, I removed the cab back trim piece in 1989. Next time, I'm removing the race track and just keeping the wide trim with rubber in the "dent" itself, already have the ends to change. Not gonna drill for race track on new doors and bed sides and fenders ..... I might not even keep the wide "dent" trim? I'll do it first "without", then decide after I get my new wheel well opening trim and stuff done. Fellow did give me the wide "FORD" panel that goes in the recess in the TG, it's like new, but my NIB OEM TG has no holes ?
I voted with 'cause if all the trim is nice and the colors are right, trim looks great.
I like both. My '73 once refinished will not have trim. The trim I like best is the small/narrow chrome strip that starts just after the front marker light and stops just before the rear marker light.
I used to like the chrome in the dent, but my new truck has the rocker molding and no chrome in the dent. The look is growing on me. Also, there's fewer places to rust, like Rich said. (77&79F250)
The trim certainly looks better when used as a paint break for 2 tone paint. It looks a bit odd on a solid color, and 2 tone looks incomplete without it.
Mine is 2 tone, so I voted for with trim.
I agree, the 73-79 F-series is one of the most iconic bodystyles of all times.
