Distributor gear question.

Distributor gear question.
I'm getting ready to put a 91 model 302 in my dads truck. I have a extra distributor off a 79 302 that im going to use. Do I need to change the distributor gear or will it be fine to use. I've got the distributor in the motor now but I thought I should ask before I run it. The 91 302 has the stock cam in it. Thanks

The distributor gear isn't a common problem item, but since you happen to have one, I'd go ahead and have a look at the old one. They are usually made of a softer material than the drive gear on the cam and I have seen a few wear out. Compare the teeth on the new gear to the teeth on the old one and you will have an idea of it's condition.

The motor came out of a crown vic, so does this mean it has a roller cam. I have read alot of info so thats why I was asking about the distributor gear. I put the distributor in but I dont want to mess anything up. Would I order a gear for a 91 crown vic or can I pull the gear off the 91 distributor and put it on my 79 distributor that Im going to use. I usually mess with the older 302 so this roller block is something new to me as far as little things like this you need to know. Thanks for the info.

Just change the gears, you'll be all set.
A lot of the crown vic's had roller blocks but were setup with flat tappet cams..
