THE ONLY REASON I HATE FORD!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, before everyone starts to flame me and bark at me about hating the Blue oval and broadcasting on this site about it.... Listen to my "HATE" issue, and you'll soon see that others may be in the same boat.....

OK the suspect.... 2004 F-250 Super-Cab Short-Box with the 6.0 Diesel.... Now, I UNDERSTAND that I bought a 3/4 ton, with a GVWR of 8800lbs.... Fair enough....Soooo that would make the GVWR the max amount the vehicle can SAFELY carry without breaking any laws or regulations.....Correct???

HERE's the issue, I loaded up my sled deck (8'X8' Marathon) along with 2 sleds (Ski-Doo 800's), strapped down and was good to go.... Truck wasn't even sitting level, still had a forward "Rake" to it.... Looked at the Rear suspension, the OVERLOADS weren't even touching, even had a 2' gap on the front and rear of Overloads....... Now the deal-breaker.......

Went to a Provincial Weigh Scale to see how much room I had before I was over..... WAS SUPRISED TO SEE THAT I WEIGHED IN AT 8910LBS!!!!!!! THATS A 1/4 TANK OF FUEL IN TRUCK AND NO FUEL IN SLEDS......... HOW DOES FORD ACTUALLY SET UP THEIR TRUCKS AND GVWR RATINGS???!!!?? As it sits my truck is 110lbs over being legal, AND I'M NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MY OVERLOADS.....Why did they install the overloads on the truck, if you cant even successfully and LEGALLY use them AND the truck to their FULL POTENTIAL????? If that's the case I'm going go take mine off and maybe get a couple pounds back on my GVWR.....

Its so annoying to have such a capable, DEPENDABLE TRuck, that I cant even PROPERLY USE!!!!!????????

Ive been a ford man through and through since I was a sparkle in my Daddy's eye.... But this is Ridiculous......... I will now and forever will be a Dedicated FORD man, just HATE their ways of Classifying and Grading their trucks, the way I see it, FORD makes 10g with each F350 they sell, cuz its a 250 with 350 stickers...... Just my opinion........

Rant over
Please Comment I would like to hear more stories like mine......

Now that you see my issu

were you weighing truck and trailer both on the scale? the way i understand it GVWR is what the truck can hold on 4 tires. with a trailer you add the weight rating for the trailer to the rating for the truck: ie my superduty rated at 8800 and goose-neck rated at 20,000
combined GVWR would be 28800

what the truck is rated to haul and what it is rated to tow are two different issues, truck weighed with trailer attached trailer off the scale will be well under 8800

Its a slide in deck, a 2001 Marathon 8'X8' Aluminum Sled-Deck, so all weight is on the truck... But even adding your comment, 5th wheel rating is 20,000 for towing, meaning you will have to have AT LEAST 19000lbs Distributed ONLY OVER Trailer Axles.... The weight of FRONT Overhang (weight of trailer from center axle to gooseneck) cannot be more than 1100lbs... If so.... Your automatically ILLEGAL.....

I would easily assume that a 40' trailer has quite a tongue weight in the bed of the truck.... That leaves around 25ft of trailer you cannot use, because it would put more weight on the truck......

I hope Im making sense of what Im trying to say........

my 29' goose neck loaded with 22 round bails only adds about 800 pounds to the truck or tongue weight, i will admit i have no experience with the type trailer you are talking about, where the axles are located on the trailer set how much weight is on the towing vehicle

The axle centering on the trailer frame is different when you compare your 29foot to say a 30- 40footer.... a triple axle 40 footer the axles are set quite a ways back... Where are your axles located from the CENTER of the deck length... Where axles are located on trailer does a lot for total Tongue weight on truck.... 40 footers have axles way bac, whereas your trailers axles may be more centered since its a 29 footer..... Cant say because I don't know what trailer you have....

don't have a measurement but I had it build telling the guy i was going to tow with 3/4 ton
normally a 25 footer is max on a 3/4, axles are set about 20" forward of where they would be normally after looking at your set up i feel your pain

From my understanding, GVWR is not a legal rating. It's a manufacturer's rating (i.e., way to deny warranty coverage). Axle and tire ratings are the ones that I know are legal ratings.

I would love to live with this way of thinking, but also would like to see the look on the Department Of Transportations Impounds my vehicle.... I thank you for your imput, BUT unless I can get 100% confirmation, I'll stick to my GVWR of 8800, Even tho the truck can do so much more.......

It's not Ford's fault, they go by the government (DOT .ext) weight #. Yes it can haul it just not legally.

With that said, what changed between 2004 and 2005 for the GOVERNMENT to want to change the GVW?? I'm not trying to make an argument over this situation, just want the answer as to how GVW is set, and what made it change between 04 and 05...?
