does a crankshaft angle sensor have to be timed?

Hello,
I am putting a new engine in a 2000 Ford ranger. It has the 4.0. I had to install a new crankshaft angle sensor but i was wondering if it is timed to the engine like a distributor would be? I believe it is a crankshaft angle sensor. It is at the very rear of the engine top and is held down like a distributor would be.

Thank you very much,
Thomas

If this goes in like a dist does, I would assume it would need to be timed in much the same manner. I'm not very familiar with this engine, so I can't say for sure.

I was assuming that it is like a distributor and your timing is set off of it. However i am not 100% sure. I bought a used engine to put in the truck for now and i had to change that over because the plugs are different on the top. Now i am wondering if i have to set it top dead center and start all over. I marked where the origional one came out but i do not know if swapping in a whole new crankshaft angle sensor will have to be timed. Thanks for the help.

Thanks,
Thomas

Is that the camshaft position sensor (CMP)?

and do you have the overhead camshaft version of the 4.0L or the push-rod version?
