Fuel Gauge/tank(s) problems
Hey guys. I have a 1994 F-350 XL, 5.8 liter with an automatic trans and its 2wd. I just got it 2 days ago and the only issue with it besides needing a paint job is the gas gauge. It has dual tanks and they switch over just fine. Problem is that the gauge stays pegged on empty even when both tanks are full. Fuses are all fine and and the wiring to the tanks looks good as well. What is the chance that the gauge crapped out and not the sending unit(s) in the tanks? I do hope the gauge is the issue. Healthwise, I can't really go in there and drop the tanks. I am sure this was probably posted in the forums, however I could not find anything on it. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

WPB, over the years I have had the same problem with many Fords.
When we were kids my Dad had a 1953 F2. The fuel gauge never worked in it. We just filled it up once a week. My 81 F100 , the rear gauge didn't work. I would fill and then use the rear tank first. My 87 F250, neither gauge works so I fill up and set the trip odometer. Switch tanks at 250 miles and make sure to fill before I hit 400. We have 2 87 F250s that neither gauge works. These get used by everybody on the farm so it is supposed to be the policy that if you run out in one tank you switch and then fill up before parking it. The backup is carrying a 2 gallon can.
I have 3 that have functioning gauges.
