Remote 'led' for each seat-heater?

My wife's '04 Explorer has 2 indictors in the auto-temp controller which illuminate when either front seat's seat warmer is on.

I keep finding "someone" occasionally leaves the pass seat heater "on" after being a passenger. I've been wondering if there's a way to hook-up a wire to the seat heater switch/wire(s) so the 'led' will come on whenever the seat heater is on?

Thanks!

Amen Brother... want to do that too....
would help with the accidents caused by having to lean over and look down to see if it's on ....

and then when that "someone" complains about "Your side gets hotter than mine"

after I say something like "Glad you noticed sweetie !!!" lol

I ruin it by saying

Well, if YOUR side hadn't been on constantly for 5 years it would work too

My 03 is on a timer as well. Push the button and it is only on for about 10 mins and then automatically turns off.

Can you control the temperature of the seats or is it fixed?

No temperature just on/off - albeit potentially with a duty-cycle which isn't "documented" to exist (ie: on for 15 minutes than off for 5?)

I know it seems like its on then off then on again later, but might just be me.

Like u say - no documentation that I've seen...
and having had the 3 Ex's in my signature, I can tell you they each acted differently...
recall the 03 used to turn off after a bit cuz the wife would complain
now it's my turn since the 05 will stay on as long as -
even across shutdown and restart cycles...

Hmmm, but good question about controlling the temps ---
If we are adding another led in the mix, why not add an led with a dial resistor to control the temp?

My 02 is on a timer but it gets too hot for me, I just use it to remove the chill in the morning.

I was actually going to figure this out too. We're coming from an '04 Explorer and miss the little indicators. For some reason the passenger seat is often left on. :S I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to run a couple wires up to the dash and put some amber LED's somewhere.

Here is a link to the style LED I was thinking about. I don't think I want anything too big. The little one in this picture.

I'm not sure where I would install it. Seems like it would be nice to be able to see it from both front seats. I guess it could even be mounted in the center console. I'll probably test brightness before I mount them so they aren't anoying at night.

If you search you'll find a thread where a guy put LED's next to the console cup holders for seat heater indicators. IIRC he just tapped the circuits feeding the elements. Seats on, then so are the LEDs.

What a great idea. It seems like I'm always hitting that switch with my leg or something when I get in and turn it on.

On the other hand, my grandpa's '04 Mountaineer has a problem where the seat heaters, but especially the driver's one, won't shut off. That thing gets so hot, I could probably fry an egg on it. They love them, but if I have to take them anywhere, it's a problem to shut it off. I haven't taken it apart to figure it out, but I need to soon.
