Well looks like I need to replace my fuel level sending unit in my 7.3 truck.

Prices are crazy. (4-500 bucks from stealership)

Napa has a universal that is 'suppose to fit'.

Any experience with these units? They have 2 different units that supposedly work, in the 35-40 dollar range.

Any experience or advise?

 

Wow. I'm afraid I can't help, but it sure sounds interesting!

 

if the diesel sending unit is similar to the gas unit it may just be a broken wire. I just replaced the sending unit in my 04 5.4 and the problem was 25 cents worth of wire that broke at the solder joint.

 

If you are truly in need of a sending unit, get one for a gasser, they sell them separate from the entire assembly, the diesel's they try to sell you the entire pickup assembly, probably why it is so expensive.

 

You should compare the 'supposed to fit' universal sender to the original type before you try this. The NAPA counterman should be able to show you pictures of both if he doesn't have them in stock.
