basically 2011 superduty/ cummins swap

Hey guys. New member but not new to the forum. Ive been poking around on it for a few years. Where to start.

I have a 2001 f-350 7.3d crew cab, that i've owned for about 4 years now. I love my truck, but I havent been the best owner to the drivetrain. Thanks to cheap tuner and 37'' tires the engine overheats and knocks quite a bit now. Im Pretty possitive i have a cracked head (water in oil). but ive still been driving it daily for about 8 months now since it started to crap out. As soon as knew it was going out i started collecting parts for the gloryious 5.9 common-rail/allison 6-speed conversion. Which i have most of now. I know this has been covered plenty of times on here and everywhere else. But...

Now thanks to a dumb*** employee of my brothers company. Im now in the process of gutting the beautiful interior and wiring of a 2011 f-350 6.7 fully loaded.

So basically im going to be doing a 2011 superduty cummins/allison conversion.

So my question is in the gauge cluster of the 2011. Is ALL of the fancy features on the lcd screen in the middle of it controlled through the body computer or combination of the 6.7 ecu and the body ecu. Im just wondering if i could even get it to work. Im a pretty good mechanic and problem solver. If it comes down to wiring i could probably figure it out but if its comes down to programing ecu's and crap like that then its not worth it ill just grab a 08-10 cluster and put that baby in it because i know peoples done that so it works. Also i am grabbing all the wiring out of it, just havnt got that far yet.

I know its a long tread for a single question but just wanted to be clear.
Im open to all input, but no i dont have the money to buy a new truck. Especaily when i have everything that i got. And if i can get this done i will be doing a 2011 front end and bed conversion. but first comes first. I also dont want this to be taking a year to finish i need my truck back as soon as i start tearing into it.

Thanks so much Bryan

Hi Bryan and welcome to FTE.

I am not sure where the Cummins/Allison comes from. A 2011 F-350 has a 6.7L Ford Diesel and a Ford automatic transmission.

If you have access to the complete truck, the swap would not be hard. The easiest method might be just to transplant your cab on the 2011 chassis.

redford, it sounds like he has a 2011 that someone dunked in a body of water and ruined not only the interior, but the engine too.

So he's got a 2011 in need of a drivetrain.

From what I got out of it, he has a 2001 7.3 that he is swapping the Cummins/Allison into.

He also has access to the interior from a wrecked 2011 SD that he wants to swap into his 2001.

x2 that was my understanding too, cummins/allison conversion on the 2001 plus any usable parts from a 2011 that is wrecked.

I'm reading it similar to kd0axs but he wants to do the swap into the 2011 now. He has a 2001 7.3l he was going to swap the cummins into. Now for some freakish reason, story needs to be told IMO, he has access to a 2011 which no longer runs because of a dumb *** employee.

I interpreted 2001 Frame/Cab, 2011 Front Clip and Bed, and Dodge engine/drivetrain.

Pictures!

He does say he is also going to do a 2011 front end and bed conversion, so that tells me he is doing all of this to the 2001.

When he is done, he will have a 2001 SD that looks like a 2011, and has a Cummins under the hood with an Allison transmission.

Sounds like a lot of work to me, but I guess anything is possible if you are willing to put the time and money into it.

sounds like just the right person to build their own truck....you're going to have the sweetest truck on the road once you're done...take care of this one!

Hey thanks for the interest and sorry for the confewsion.

I have a 2001 350 cc. That will be doing the cummins/ allison swap. I also will be putting the interior from a 2011 into it. The 2011 was vandalized, by a now ex-employee "On Camera". The insurence has totaled it out. The Interior was basically untouched, just broken glass everywhere. He did a great job destroying a great truck. The truck had a service bed on it so i do have a brand new long bed thats been sitting in the shop.

Anyways ya basically im gonna take everything out of the interior of the 2011, a few things under the hood. Im grabing the frame, bumpers, axles, driveshafts and transfer case. other than that everything else got beat with a crowbar.

Will do. Im hopeing to start on it around Christmas time. Ive got all the adaptor plates, engine mounts, speedo pickup, etc... from destroked. The 5.9 i know runs great, it came out of a '05. The allison on the other hand i would love to get a atc stage 2, but with the $6800 price tag is alot to swallow. Other than that im pretty much set to do the swap.

Im just gonna go for and see what happens. Does anyone know where to get some wiring schematics for the 2011? I think if i can get that i could figure it out.

try Service Manuals, Owner Manuals, Wiring Diagrams, Service Bulletins - Helm Incorporated for the wiring schematics. they print them for ford, and are the best ones to get. did the engine and trans somehow get trashed on the '11 as well ? can you post some pics?
