I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt on your questions...

1. If you have an 87 you DO NOT need the fuel line disconnect tool.

2. Use a small flat pocket screwdriver or the like, slip it in behind the clip on the connector and twist it slightly, just enough to be able to clear the locking tangs on the sending unit connector. Too much and you break an ear off. But... Ford connectors have always been tricky ones.

do i need to take the heat shield off of it first?? if someone will send me step by step instructions on how to remove it from the three screws in the filler tube to the finish., i would certainly appreciate it. do i need to put grease on the unit when i put it back? maybe i wont have to bother you guys on this again. thanks a million

dropping gas tank

if someone will e-mail me instructions step by step from the 3 screws on the fill neck to the finish. do i need to remove the heat shield [ i guess thats what it is at the top front of my tank??] do i need grease on the sending unit when i replace it? maybe i wont have to bug you fella;s anymore on this project. i have the renoval tool 3/8 and blue for the gas lines and i bought a can of p.b blaster. i;ll be the only 80 tear old mechanic in the neighborhood.LLLlol thanks guys

and if i break the connector, can i buy new ones?

the bolts that hold the straps on are turning. i can put my hand on top of the bolt and it is turning, the front strap bolt is gonna be hard because the drive shaft is in the way. are these bolts supposed to turn like that? seems like i will have to put a wrench on top to hold them too. thanks

Yeah that's how I did mine.... just hold a wrench on top and a wrench on the nut to loosen it

If you take an old sharpie cap and cut it down, then slice it up the middle you can use it too substitute for the special tool you need. Never tried it my self but I have seen it done a couple times.
